Leonard J. Schlachter, 73, passed away on February 23, 2022, surrounded by his family at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Lenny lived in Jenkintown, PA., with his beloved wife, Diane (Lyons), and his sidekick Hercules. Lenny was born in Philadelphia to William and Betty Schlachter and was a graduate of Frankford High School and attended Temple University and East Stroudsburg University.
Leonard was a family man; his wife and children were the focus of his life. Lenny grew up in the church and devoted his whole life to serving the Lord. He taught Sunday school, was a youth counselor for 25 years and was a deacon at Calvary Presbyterian. Lenny became involved in Common Bond, a volunteer organization that helped senior citizens stay in their homes. He helped countless women and men through this organization. Many of the people he helped became family members, and he did everything he could for them.
Leonard and his late son John were avid Philadelphia sports fans. They constantly went to games and talked about sports. Leonard worked for Acme Markets for 25 years as a forklift driver. Leonard was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and devoted son. He was a loyal and supportive friend to many people. Len enjoyed all kinds of music and could frequently be found singing at any time. Lenny loved animals and adopted many different dogs over the years from animal shelters.
Leonard is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Christy, son-in-law Michael Harman and granddaughter Haley. He is also survived by his late son John’s family, daughter-in-law Lauren, and grandchildren Jack and Julia. Lenny was extremely close to his brother William and wife Doris and their children Rebecca and Bill Schlachter. He also had a brother-in-law, William, and his two daughters, Amanda and Allison Morris.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, March 12th, for visitation with the family from 10:30 am-12:00 pm at Calvary Presbyterian Church 405 N Easton Rd Willow Grove, PA 19090. Service will follow at noon, followed by a luncheon at church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church.
