John Albert Maicher passed away on August 4, 2018 at the age of 33. Originally from Burholme, Philadelphia, PA, the family moved to Birdsboro, PA, in 1993. He was the loving son of Albert & Sandy (nee Lightbody) Maicher; Grandson of Marge & John Lightbody of Reading, PA (formerly of Burholme), and Grandson of Helen and the late Albert Maicher of Philadelphia, PA (formerly of Burholme). John is survived by his Aunts and Uncles: Susanne (Maicher) & James Malazita; Steven Maicher & Gina (Seiberlich) Maicher; Elizabeth (Maicher) & Thomas Dowling; Katherine (Maicher) & Jerry Dooling; David Maicher & Lorrie (Lawrence) Maicher; as well as First Cousins James, Steven, Rebecca, Megan, Michael, Katie, & Jenna. John was born on August 8, 1984 and had a lifetime of medical problems and issues. That did not stop him however from living life to the fullest. John was a student at Birdsboro Elementary School and was in the School Band, Choir, and Space Camp. John graduated from Daniel Boone High School in 2003. While in HS John joined Daniel Boone’s Band where he was a percussionist and played at the football games and Cavalcade Competition events. He participated in school Chorale, Choir, Show Choir, Select Choir, Senior Choir, Percussion Ensemble, County Chorus & District Chorus. John also helped out in the summer with Band Camp. John participated in school plays and played the role of Doctor Seuss in Dr Seuss Read Across America. John was a member of the Drama Club, DBHS Play, DBYEA, FCS Membership, Announcers Club, wrote for Voices and the HS Newspaper, and was a National Honor Society member. John graduated college from Millersville University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with a Minor in Print Media Studies. John participated in the Men’s Choir, the regular Choir, and Band where he was a percussionist. John was both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout in Troop 595 Birdsboro where he won his first Pinewood Derby race. John loved sports especially playing little league baseball where he was on the Birdsboro Sportsman’s Club Team. He also played on St. Mark’s Lutheran Church’s team. He enjoyed playing street hockey with his friends and played team hockey at Timberline where he designed the teams jersey, The Blue Bombers. John tap danced for 10 years at the Dance Centers Studios. After college John worked at the Reading Eagle Newspaper in the Marketing Department and he hosted the TV show “Just Say Sports” on the Berks County PBS TV Channel. John was friendly to everyone he met and was loved by many. Heaven gained an angel and he will be sorely missed.
Family and Friends may call from 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 5 Brooke Manor, Birdsboro, PA, 19508. Services will be at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Birdsboro Cemetery.
