Helen Marie (Clarhaut) Dougherty

February 14, 1924 ~ July 16, 2018 (age 94)

DOUGHERTY, Helen Marie (Clarhaut) age 94, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Monday July 16th, 2018. She was a graduate of Olney High School in 1942 and went on to work at the largest and most influential publishers in the United States during the early 20th century, Curtis Publishing Company in Philadelphia PA.  

Helen was a dedicated and active member of St.Helena’s Catholic Church in Olney PA, where she attended daily mass for the greater part of her life.  Her never ending desire to help all of those in need and her dedication to Catholic ministries, really defined her life and were second to none!

Preceded in death by her loving husband of many years, John Patrick Dougherty, her father Albert P Clarhaut, her mother Anna Marie McCormick, her brother George J. Clarhaut (Jean), her brother Albert P. Clarhaut (Dorothy) her step sister Dorothy Vance and her very best friend in life, Mrs. Helen Perry, who preceded her in death by just 4 days.  

Helen is survived by her only son John Patrick Dougherty Jr., his wife Carol Dougherty (Hudson), her three grandsons, Sean Patrick (Connie), Daniel Michael (Kim) and Scott Charles (Colette), as well as her six wonderful great grandchildren, Sean Ryan, Rebecca Sarah, Daniel Michael, Liam Christopher, Aidan Nicholas and Addison Rose.  She is also survived by many beautiful nieces, nephews and friends.


Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am, on Monday July 30th at St. Helena’s Church, 1489 Dekalb Pike, BLUE BELL PA, 19422. Burial in Holy Sepulchre cemetery, at 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia PA, 19150. The family would like to express our sincere thanks for the wonderful help and care given by the incredible staff at Powerback Rehabilitation Center in Hatboro PA. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis Tennessee 38105, in lieu of flowers.
